elegant traditional country garden outdoor living
Our traditional country garden in Lewes, East Sussex, was designed by our Design Director, Elisa Montalti, and completed in early 2024. The garden was developed in three different phases, which included the main patio, a vegetable garden, and a stunning Japanese Bridge.
The main patio includes a recessed large floating sun umbrella and a large teak table, with enough space for twelve guests. The traditional country garden style is reflected throughout the garden, which includes the oak-raised vegetable garden, which was phase two of the garden installation.
For our traditional country garden, we chose Florence Beige porcelain paving for the main patio. Reconstituted stone was used for the central steps leading down to the lawn and for the capping on the low brick wall that spans the entire width of the patio. Additionally, we incorporated oak for the raised beds in front of the patio, creating a gentle planting area for the garden.
traditional materials
We installed two raised herb beds made from softwood, filled with a topsoil mixture that allowed abundant mixed herbs. The raised beds add a layered effect to a garden, which adds height and structure in flat spaces. Adding height to a garden is invaluable and enhances its appeal by creating visual interest and depth. This layering effect can highlight different plants and flowers, creating a more dynamic and engaging environment.
raised herb beds
A traditional country garden requires traditional materials, and oak and stone are the perfect partners for this landscaping project. The key materials are porcelain and oak brick. When combined, these materials complement one another and elevate the garden space. Each has its own unique character, which creates the charm, style, and feel of a traditional country garden.
